“Think Outside the Box”

Read 1 Samuel 4:1-11

Our relationship with God is dynamic.  When we live in that awareness our lives are empowered, energized, and uncomfortable.  As the Israelites discovered, however, this dynamic relationship can be hijacked.

v     Why do the Israelites bring the ark to the battle front?  What might be wrong with this thinking?

v     What do the Philistines know about the Lord (vv. 7-9)?  How does this view of the Lord compare with that of the Hebrews?

v     When have you trusted in symbols or rituals in stead of the reality to which they point?

v     How is this passage of Scripture helpful for you in your spiritual walk?  How might your behavior reflect the insight you have gained?  Can you commit to such a practice?
